The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 《呼朋引伴》的故事其实很简单，三个不同的城市组成了三段式的结构，同样也代表了侄子 Jesse和舅舅Johnny之间关系的变化。同时，整个故事中穿插了Johnny为了制作采访录和孩子们的谈话，才是整部电影中最重要的部分。这些年幼的孩子们严肃并且充满哲理地表达着自己关于父母、朋友、人生、世界的看法，居然直抵我们这些所谓成年人的内心深处。这样我们感到自惭形秽。关于这个世界，关于我们自身的真相，成年人已经越来越难以分辨了，但是孩子们却看得一清二楚。
