因为会算牌，玩牌既可以打发时间也能挣到钱，他单调地活着，终日混迹赌场却清醒自持，不缺钱，缺活着的意义。碰见一个一心复仇的小伙子，他让小伙子跟着他，为了小伙子去参加需要资助人的赌博比赛，违背了一向小富即安的原则。给了小伙子15万，可以解决小伙子及其母亲的困境，可以从此开始正常的生活，他终于找到了活着的意义，热切地盼着小伙子跟母亲团聚的消息。可是，小伙子没有去找母亲还是去复仇并死求了。。。女资助人是他找的第二个活着的意义，这次进监狱，会盼着出来，因为有人来看他。。。想起当年看逃出拉斯维加斯，越看越绝望。这片不同，男主拼命找盼头，这是人和动物的区别，人需要意义，在冰冷中本能找暖和贴贴
肉身肌肤上的疮口或许可以随年日慢慢被治愈，但内心里的惊惧忧虑却会一再撕裂，久久不得安心。在睡梦中、在神游中、在散漫的日常生活所有的琐碎当中，一而再再而三地想起从前身困囹圄，心困炼狱的往事。用鱼眼镜头展示出残酷的狱中记忆，如梦似幻，昏昏沉沉，惶惑、迷乱而惊悸。每逢赌场，必有叫喊令人两耳鸣叫的“USA”，暗自嘲讽。这是本片仅有的，乏善可陈的亮点之一二。其余部分实在是索然无味。不知是模仿了谁，是索菲亚·科波拉还是王家卫，风格不成风格，故事不成故事。涉及牌的玩法，想必对于早看过香港电影的人而言，未免显得太过于小儿科了。
看到监狱的部分有惊喜，但和算牌始终有点割裂，如果只讲虐囚会不会好一些？
有种90年代剧情片的感觉，两个男主选的都不错，特别是伊萨克，造型非常有张力。罪与罚，是与非，在人间的审判之上的是“上帝”的审判。
有些镜头蛮有意思的，大段的广角和监狱里的百态，很妙。
故作深沉，什么事情都没有讲好，ptsd，赌博，感情，犯罪，全都没有说清楚。
说实话，本作卡斯阵容也相当不错：
老派的技法，正如老去的施拉德和他固执的布列松影像，影像成熟的让你会跟进，但是故事情节松散到我已经开始数我吃的葡萄有多少个籽以及这个葡萄籽放到枪里会不会打死人了。。。
算是蛮讽刺的故事。复仇和扑克毫无关系，但是也是人生无法像赌博一样算出几率

很意外很惊喜，空间的推拉固定，对观众的勾引挑衅，氛围的营造，都非常喜欢。尤其喜欢一种理科生一样的固定逻辑式的场景镜头，奥斯卡伊萨克也很有魅力。至于剧情，不需要为什么，感受就好。
005剧本应该吸引了演员，但实际故事组成逻辑出错了，想要拍得吸引人太难了。并且女主选角太差。
